Top Ten List 1

Top Ten List 1
Katya

The year of 2016 was full of successful movie releases around the world and the team of Clueless Cineasts has decided to keep up with trends and came up with the TOP 10 best film productions that you can’t miss.

1. Arrival

Who would have thought that it is still possible to come up with a new aliens-are- arriving- to-the-Earth story, drop the cheesy lines and even make it meaningful? Well, what do you know, it is possible, and this movie is a living proof to it. Without giving up too many spoilers we just want to point out that the director of the movie is  Denis Villeneuve and if you know his works you can imagine the captivating atmosphere of every movie that he creates,  the Arrival wasn’t the exception. Gradually, along with the main characters we become researchers and detectives and that makes us so much involved in the story that we are no longer just watching it, we are experiencing it. Such an effect is created by a combination of acting, music, camera work, acting ... Villeneuve picked up a great team!

2. Sing Street

“Non woman can truly love a man who listens to Fill Collins” or “It is always about a girl”

Have you ever dreamt about having your own band? Now is the right time. The movie slogan tells it all: a boy meets a girl, the girl in unimpressed that’s why he decides to start a band.  The film is very kind and warm, sometimes sad and very beautiful. It seems to say: watch out, inexperienced teenagers are going to conquer the world and are not afraid to take risk, and what have you done to pursue your dreams? This film seems to be a reminder that life is full of unexpected adventures and every minute is a chance for you to create something incredible. If you need a portion of inspiration make yourself comfortable, turn on Sing Street and spend two hours enjoying it.

3.Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

“A guy with a suitcase
So, Potter fans, were you waiting for this, I know we were. The magical universe of Joanne Rowling has reached our TV screens, 70 years before the events of the Harry Potter, the magician-zoologist Newt Scamander arrives in New York with a suitcase full of magical creatures. They accidentally run away, and the main character in order to catch them gets himself in a lot of trouble. The film is original not only with its history, which takes place long before the acquaintance with the boy with the scar, but also by the way it is depicted. We cannot say that the plot is something incredibly amazing. But! How cozy it was to watch everything that was happening on the screen, how nice was it to see the reference to the characters that you know so well, how great it was to hear the spells. And, finally, doesn’t it give you chills to hear that thematic melody of John Williams in an updated version. It is a magical world but it is not the one that we knew before.

4.Toni Erdmann

Vinfred comes to visit his daughter but 37-year-old business has literally no time, she is always busy with her work, that's why the cheerful dad poses as eccentric businessman Tony Erdmann. He tries to remind his daughter that we must not forget to live a life, to enjoy the world around us, and to stop burring your life in work. The film is very true to life. You might be under an impression that you are present somewhere near and not on the set but and there, in real story, among the real heroes of the film.  It is honest with the audience and is not focused on effects but on the essence of things, the feelings.  It shows life almost real. Without a doubt a great work of the film’s director. It is much more difficult to show the story "as it is" than to do something smoothed and artistic. Here we deal with reality. It's amazing.

5.Hacksaw Ridge

World War II, medical pacifist Desmond Doss volunteers for the front, but on religious beliefs refuses to take up weapons. So, unarmed,  he is in the very center of the actions. Doss doesn’t make a single shot, but brings 75 wounded from the battlefield and gets awarded the Medal of Honor. The film that can affect even the most “heartless” audience.

It is amazing in every way starting from directing and to special effects , acting and scenery. It contains so many different aspects that everyone can reflect upon. Here and the horror of war, questions of faith, trust in man, love, family. Sometimes people give up their beliefs under the influence of the environment or situation, but Doss is not like that.

The film is highly recommended for viewing. Do not  be confused by the theme of religion in this film, in addition to this there are many other things which are worth taking the time for.

6.Captain America: Civil War

Marvel fans you know the story, Tony Stark ad Gap has something to fight about. In the world of Marvel it is a revolution time. "Good guys" are beating each other half to death trying to prove the point. The revolution that marked "Civil War" is a logical consequence of the evolution of the franchise as a whole – step by step Marvel builds a colossal world with each film playing new role and acquiring increasingly dramatic shades. Is it allowed for people with superpowers to do justice the way they want, or do they need control? What is more important - clean the reputation of a friend or be on the side of the law? These are the questions you are going to asking yourself, so make yourself comfortable and enjoy the show.

7.La danseuse ( The dancer)

A young dancer dream of conquering America, and her best performance is an amazing butterfly dance. The film is shot very true to the genre of biographical story. The focus is on the contradictory female character, we see the reflections on how important it is to be true to yourself and your aspirations, we see all the stages of overcoming difficulties and struggles to do your favorite thing and turn a fictional dance into art. Although after watching it there might be mixed feelings. Even though the film is well-shot at the end one can be left with open questions like was Lui able to overcome herself or was it only her creating  a magnificent dance?

8.Swiss Army Man

The guy turns out to be on an uninhabited island with a carved body out of nowhere. A multifunctional corpse that can be used not only for its intended purpose – which is to be buried in the ground - it can also shoot, extract water, fire and all that.

However, you know that the film is not about the necrophilic fun, but about loneliness. Total loneliness of a person in society. How unhappy you need to be to make friends with a corpse. It is a good thing that the corpse reciprocates and  the characters begin to lead intimate conversations, of which the corpse , whose name is, by the way, Manny learns about  people, the society in which they live, the rules they adhere to. The theme of the picture might not be new, but portrayed quite unexpectedly. Definitely worth of your attention.

9.Juste la fin du monde (IT is only the end of the orld)

The plot of the film is simple and even in a sense cheesy: the return of the son to his home, family quarrelling, mutual resentment, accusations, the burden of the past and fear of the future - what can be closer and more understandable for each viewer? What is unique about Dolan's picture? Not in the material itself, as already mentioned, but rather in its presentation. Here the director discovers courage and  a peculiar vision of the world. This is definitely a stylish movie so to speak: slow-motion footage, incredible beauty footage, great actors' play, soundtrack all of it is there. You may lack the action but come on it is a French movie not a Hollywood blockbuster.

10.En man som heter Ove (A man called ove)

This is one of the few films that you cannot say anything bad: the script, the picture, the actors… It seems like all of it is so simple but all together gives an incredible effect.

The film tells about daily life, about what old people are grumbling about, that they live with their own foundations and completely do not accept the “new” world around them. But Uwe ... He's different. Despite all his grouchiness he is kind and caring.

The movie" is a chance for us to take a different look at the life, even with the eyes of a 60-year-old man. It feels like there is so much to learn about.
